This a reminder for students that use the library for morning activity time.  Last week we had several students leave their games out and forget to tuck in their chairs.  If you use the library for activity time, please clean up after yourself. This means putting games away and tucking in your chair.  It also means you don't bring food or drink into the library, you don't run around, and you don't use the computers unless you visit one of the websites posted.  If these rules aren't followed, we will have to close or limit the number of students. Mr. Howard

Hey all you mustangs out there.  I wanted to provide you all with some motivation on this Monday morning.  Take moment to think about and reflect on the following: "Ships don't sink because of the water around them.  Ships sink because of the water that get in them." Don't let what's happening around you get inside you and weigh you down!

You McMinnville Middle School Wrestlers competed at Dayton High School last night.  Going undefeated were Cameron Anderson, Max Vander Meide, Mickey Johnson, and Connor Clifford.  Cash Anderson, Jackson Chytka, Demetrio Elias-Luna, Justin Jackson, Mason Marshall, and Tristan Stevens also competed.   Everyone competed valiantly and represented McMinnville well. The wrestlers compete again next Tuesday at French Prairie MS in Woodburn.  "It’s not the will to win that matters – everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters."

Yesterday at North Marion Middle School the Grizzly wrestlers were out in force.  Several wrestlers had outstanding performances, and the team continued to improve.  Leading the way were Max Vander Meide, Cameron Anderson, and Mickey Johnson who all went undefeated against the other schools in attendance.  Demetrio Elias Luna impressed, as he won two matches by fall in his first competition of the year. Jackson Chytka (Kit-Ka) wrestled tough and improved during each of his matches.    Justin Jackson competed valiantly, winning 2 of his 3 matches in impressive fashion. Cash Anderson displayed his wrestling prowess, getting his hand raised one time. Tristan Root laid it all on line and get his best effort against some stout competition.  Tristan Stevens showed flashes of brilliance during the match. Jesse Jones-Nguyen wrestled an epic match to start off the tournament. Mason Marshall continued his ascent, as he gets better each time he steps on the mat. Carson Webber Toney stepped out in the circle and gave it his all.  Tyler Martino continues to be an asset to the team, as he helped out while he recovers from his injury. As Dan Gable once said "Once you have wrestled, everything else in life is easy!" Go Grizzly Wrestlers!

The Girls IM Basketball team had a home game last night.   Patton's Team 5 beat Duniway's Team 3. The girls played really well, especially on the defensive end; intercepting passing and forcing turnovers for the other team.   Nahla Nelson, Alexia Mial, Belen Ramirez and McKenzie Clifford all scored 4 points each. Maddie Smith lead the team with 8 points. Chloe, Jayden, and Natalie all played incredible defense. Great job girls.  Our next game will be this Thursday at Duniway.

Homework Help is offered after school Monday through Thursday until 4 pm for students to complete assignments and quizzes. If you plan to attend bring your Chromebook and any papers you need to complete your work. Remember this is a space to work quietly and get help from teachers. You should know what assignments you need to work on and start them within the first few minutes. If you are not sure what to work on check eSchool for missing work or quizzes to retake. There are many who come to Homework Help so students need to be active in finding what they need to do to improve their grade and to use time wisely. This is also not a time to hang-out with other students and socialize. We want all students to benefit from Homework Help.

The Grizzly defense played their best and last game of the season against a BIG Lebanon team.  Both teams had an unbeaten season up to this game. But the Grizzlies could not be stopped. The Grizzlies came out ahead and won the game 46 to 16.  The Grizzlies frustrated the Warriors all night with an aggressive, menacing defense. Coleman Searcy and Jesse Jones lived in the Lebanon backfield with several tackles for a loss.  Jesse also caused and recovered a fumble. Brandon Birney and DeAndre Sanchez had some great blitzes and tackles. The big hit of the night belonged to Cameron Anderson when he made a tackle that you could hear a mile away.  Isaiah Donahue and Max Vandermeide locked down the Lebanon wide receivers with great coverage. Bobby Farwell was his typical happy self and was a great teammate all year. Overall, the Grizzly D did a tremendous job. The Grizzly Offensive MACHINE was led by Max Saltmarsh and the big boys of the “O” line. The outcome of the game was never in doubt from the opening kick. The Grizzlies had big plays from Mickey Johnson, Tyler Mishler and Brandon Birney who combined with the offensive explosion from Tariku Rue and Austin Rapp.  They left Lebanon scratching their heads in frustration. Austin Rapp, behind a really TOUGH offensive line, rushed for over 140 yards and 3 touchdowns, however Tariku Rue was not to be outdone. He rushed for over 100 yards, he had a punt return for a TD and over 100 yards in punt returns. Tariku also threw a pass to Tyler Mishler for 45 yards. Tyler Martino got in on the action scoring a 3 yard TD, and Madison Cowlthorp and Garrett Yates also had nice runs. All in All it was a great team win. Congratulations Grizzlies on a terrific 2018 season. Go Grizzlies!!!

8th grade volleyball ended their season with clean sweep against Duniway! A team held Duniway to single digits in the first set 25-6. Great hustle plays all around by everyone including Madi Fox and Lizbeth Reyes Villa. Setting was ran by Lexie and Sophie Conover and they did a great job setting all their hitters. Great digs from Libby Hardee kept Patton ahead of Duniway the entire match. The front line was dominated by Taylor Preston and Emma Lane. Avery Grell had a great match as nothing got past her in the middle. Emilee Roberts had another great match blocking and hitting. Great job A team!  The B team match started off strong with a string of serves from Amelia Christensen and Mimi Bajinka. Claire Van Horn, who also saw action in the A game, led the team in serve receive passing and digs. Audra Erickson had some sweet saves in the game that gave Patton a huge advantage all match. Liliana Larrea was unstoppable at setting all season and set up her hitters well all night, including Halle Woolen, McKenzie Clifford and Ire Staten Browning. Halle had some great blocks during the game as well! A special shout out needs to go to Allie Rockwell who was our team manager and rocked it! Thank you Allie! Coach Gradek is super proud of how well everyone improved this season and is looking forward to cheering you on as Grizzlies next fall! Don’t forget today after school to meet in the Home Ec room for our team party! We will be done at 4:30.

Last night the 7th Grade Volleyball teams finished their season with a late night match against Duniway.  The B Team won all three sets, 25-9, 25-20 and 25-17. The B Team ends their season with a record of 7 wins and 4 loses.  The A Team played hard but lost in the last set to Duniway. Their scores were 21-24, 25-18 and 23-25. Their season record was also 7 wins, 4 loses.  Note from Coach Olson: Thank you to all the volleyball players who worked hard all season to improve their game. It was a blast watching you grow both as individual players and as a team.  Don't forget to meet after school in the HomeEc room for our end-of-the season party.

Coach Corey Medeiros

The Grizzly 8th grade football team went up against a good Tiger football team from Dallas here at Duniway Middle School.  The Grizzly offense sputtered a little bit against a tough Dallas defense with a couple key offensive lineman out, however some other players like Kale Lavenger and Jesse Jones stepped up to the job.  The Grizzlies still scored 28 points, beating Dallas 28-24. Austin Rapp was the work horse scoring a couple TD,s and rushing for a tough 130 yards. Tyler Mishler scored on a diving catch in the end zone from Brandon Bomberger and Tariku Rue scored on an exciting 50 yard jet sweep. Max Saltmarsh and Austin weeks had a crucial first down on 3rd down and 14 yards to the line of gain.  The Grizzly defense had some good moments yesterday against Dallas. Brandon Bomberger forced a fumble that Max Saltmarsh recovered. Jesse Jones and Mason Yochum made several big plays in the backfield to put Dallas in tough situations. Mickey Johnson and TJ Lake were also instrumental in slowing down the run. The DB's had some good moments as well. Micheil Cross had a nice tackle and Max Vandermeide was his usual tough self.  Preston Moniz had a perfectly timed blitz to blow up a running play. All in all, there were a lot of positives from the Grizzlies to stay undefeated. Next week Thursday the Grizzlies travel to Lebanon to take on a power house of a team. Kick-off is at 5:30pm at the Lebanon High School. Go Grizzlies.

Great American Shakeout today

Baker

The Grizzly 8th grade football team went up against a good Titan football team this past Tuesday in Forest Grove. Behind good Offensive line play the Grizzlies were able to comfortably pull out a win against the Titans of Neil Armstrong Middle School. Behind a strong run game, Austin Rapp rushed for close to 100 yards and a couple touchdowns and Tariku Rue who scored a touchdown in his first game back from injury. Grizzlies won 20-0. The Grizzly defense had a great day as they pitched a shutout. Jesse Jones led the way with 2 big sacks. Mason Yochum and Coleman Searcy got in on the action as well with one sack each. The middle of the Bears D was stout as they controlled the running game. Brandon Bomberger, Austin Weeks, Mickey Johnson, and Brandon Birney made several tackles. Finally, Tariku Rue paced the secondary with two interceptions. Great job Grizzly defense. Volleyball action last night against French Prairie came down to the 3rd deciding set for both A and B team.  Both teams played well but French Prairie came away with the win in both matches. In the B game Amelia Christianson had great serving runs and Audra Erickson showed excellent results with her net play. Mimi Bajinka had a 6 serve run in the 1st set as well!  In the A game players were diving and blocking and hitting overpasses all over the place. Taylor Preseton and Libby Hardee had great net games and Lizbeth Villa Reyes had a great save in the 3rd deciding set. Emma Lane and Madi Fox both had great serving runs that helped the Mustangs keep the games close!  Next match is Thursday at Duniway at 4pm. Great job ladies!
